Planning a Football-Themed Adult Birthday Party

For those fortunate enough to celebrate their birthday in the crisp air and gorgeous foliage of autumn, the celebrations also have the advantage of coinciding with the football season. Planning a pigskin-themed party for a group of adults can be great fun. In addition to cheering on the home team, both the celebrants and the honoree will love these ideas for a football birthday party.
Decorations and Wardrobe
What are the home team’s colors? Streamers, balloons, disposable plates and cups, and even the wrapping paper of the gifts can be splashed with these colors. Check out the offerings at the local party store to see if there are banners available with the team logo. As for clothing, ask the guests to wear their favorite football jerseys, hoodies, or sweatshirts. If face-painting is common for game attendance, encourage it for birthday party attendance. Depending on the local flavor, beer hats (possibly with soda cans instead of beer), a towel to wave, or other ‘good luck’ props common in many cities are also a good idea. For example, those in Pittsburgh wouldn’t dream of watching a game without their Terrible Towel. The folks in Greenbay strap a foam brick of cheese to their head. Let the local flavor dictate the props.
Entertainment Options
Ideally, the party should be planned to start right before the weekly game to allow for some socializing and eating before kickoff. If the party can’t coincide with game day or it falls during a bye week, consider recording the previous week’s game to relive the glory.
Another idea would be to have a highlight reel put together for the honoree. Hard-core fans will love to watch the best passes and plays of the last few decades strung together. There are also highlight reels and football documentaries for sale online that focus on every team in the NFL. These make for both good gifts and good entertainment.
Snacks and Drinks
To prepare for the festivities, make sure there are plenty of refreshments. Drinks can encompass everything from the quintessential beer to favorite sodas. Cranberry ale, hot chocolate, and tart apple cider are also fall favorites that go great with the excitement of football. As for snacks, carbohydrate-laden goodies like cookies, potato chips, and cold-cut sandwiches are safe bets. The good thing about football is that it’s a laid-back, no-tie-required pastime. While some more labor-intensive goodies like meatball subs or home-made pizza would be appreciated, they won’t be required for this birthday party!
Getting a group of adults together to celebrate a fall birthday can be a great time. Football lovers tend to be a fun-loving group, so try not to stress over small details. Simply toss up some color-coordinated decorations, provide some hearty chow, and cheer the team to victory!
