Cut a baked, cooled sheet cake into three shapes” clown face, hat and bow-tie.
Freeze in a zip loc bag. Freezing makes the cakes much easier to work with.
Make Marshmallow Fondant and refrigerate at least 8 hours.
When ready to decorate, prepare a frosting bag with white buttercream frosting. Set your fondant on the counter and let it come to room temperature. Roll the fondant out to a thin sheet of frosting using powdered sugar on your rolling surface. TIP: Always keep your roller pin in the freezer.
Cover each of the three shapes with thin layer of fondant. Tuck about 1/4 inch of the fondant sheet under the bottom. Basically, the top and sides of your shape are covered tucking under an edge of the fondant sheet to just hold it in place. Put all three shapes back into the freezer.
Prepare candies for decoration. This is where you get really creative. The clown in this picture has red frosting for the ball on the top of the hat and the clown’s nose. The eyes are made of Junior Mints; the polka dots are M&Ms (make sure the ‘m’ is facing down). The hair is Trolli Bite Crawlers, and the mouth is a strawberry twizler (cut in half lengthwise). Put butter cream frosting on top of the fondant to “glue” on your candies.
