Invitations

If your child has a cat of his or her own, a picture of the two of them together is perfect for the invitation. Use photo-enhancing software to add word balloons inviting the guests to the party and make postcard-sized prints. These can be mailed with or without an envelope at postcard rate. If your child doesn’t have a cat, then a photograph of any cat can be used, instead.

Decorations

Unlike character-themed parties, Cat Party are easily personalized to incorporate your childs favorite colors and activities. Use streamers, happy birthday banners and balloons in your child’s favorite colors and tie them into the cat party theme by adding cat or kitten photographs. Cut the pictures into 31/2 inch circles or ovals and then cut heavy paper into 4-inch medallions. Mount the photographs on the medallions with glue, then use them to accent streamers, bunting and balloons. Tie a large metal washer to the end of balloon strings and glue two medallions together with washer inside to make unique balloon weights. Use poster-sized printouts of the invitation photograph to emphasize the cat theme.

Dress Code

Ask guests to dress as their favorite cats from literature or the movies, or have them wear ordinary party clothes and make dressing up as a cat part of the entertainment.

Games and Activities

Face-painting is a natural choice for this birthday party theme. Use non-toxic paint labeled as face paint and paint whiskers on each childs cheeks. Paint rounded brown, black or pink triangles on their noses to make cat noses. Accessories to add to the effect can be distributed as party favors. Other activities might include Tape-the-Tail on the Kitten, Movie Cat Jeopardy or making cat masks from paper plates, paint, glue and craft items.

Food

Kitty cat pizzas are a fun and easy choice for a cat-themed birthday party menu. Begin with individual-sized frozen or homemade cheese pizzas. Use triangle-shaped tortilla chips for the ears, olives for the eyes, half a grape tomato for the nose and thin strips of onion for the whiskers.

Birthday Cake

Most bakeries make cat-shaped cakes. If you prefer to make your own cake, you can make a cat-faced cake in keeping with the chosen party theme the same way you made the cat pizzas, substituting triangles of frosted cake for the ears, blueberries for the eyes, a pink gumdrop for the nose and red licorice whips for whiskers. Or ask your bakery to turn the invitation photo into an edible image and transfer it onto an ordinary cake.

Party Favors

If you’ve opted to allow the guests to dress up as part of the birthday party entertainment, goody bags should contain headbands with furry cat ears on them and bells on breakaway safety lanyards. Round out the favor bags with small beanbag cats, cat-themed pencils and notepads, cat-shaped erasers and, of course, balls.
