Birthday Party Theme is Miss America Pageant
Birthday party ideas can be difficult things to think of, especially in cold, snowy January. If a little girl loves dress-up and glamor, a Miss America theme would be perfect for her.
Little girls have loved the magic of the Miss America pageant since 1921. The fabulous gowns, the glittering tiaras, and the beautiful ladies make the Miss America pageant an appealing party theme for little girls who love dress-up. The Miss America Pageant is January 14, 2012. If a girl’s birthday is anywhere close to this date, using a pageant theme is one of the best party ideas for a girly-type of girl. This date is on a Saturday, so the entire day could be devoted to the party.
The party could begin in the late afternoon. All the girls invited would love having their hair and make-up done. Invite a few older teenage girls to come over to help with hair and make-up. Remember, the point is to make the little girls feel glamorous, not to make them look too grown-up, so go easy on the make-up. Before the party, collect an assortment of fancy dresses to be the girls’ “ball gowns.” Parents may also want to have a collection of high-heeled shoes, costume jewelry, and other accessories to “glam up” the celebration.
After the girls are all dressed up, create a runway by running masking tape in parallel lines on the floor. Show the girls how to model on the runway and allow them to take turns doing so with upbeat, exciting music playing in the background. Remember to take lots of pictures of all the little girls in their finery. After the “pageant” award every child a tiara and ribbon sash with different titles painted on them in glitter glue. Some titles might be “Prettiest Eyes,” “Curliest Hair,” “Best Fashion Sense,” or “Cutest Smile.” The whole point is to make this non-competitive so each child is recognized equally. Or if you do not want to emphasize the girls’ appearances, the titles could be “Best Listener,” “Most Sharing,” or “Best Sense of Humor.” Keep the recognition ceremony upbeat and positive so that every child feels like a winner.
After the pageant, it could be time to eat. A great birthday cake idea, might be a cake with Barbie in it like this one from Martha Stewart: Barbie Party Cake While the girls are eating their dinner and cake, they could begin to watch the Miss America pageant on television. Since the pageant runs fairly late into the evening, this type of party would best be a sleep-over type of party. At commercial breaks, ask each little girl to share their “talent.” They could sing, dance, or tell jokes as entertainment.
A Miss America party is an original idea for a little girl’s birthday. Little girls will love the dress-up ideas and will remember the party for a long time. It would be a special, exciting time for all involved.
