Birthday parties and fairy tales are two favorites of little ladies.

If you are the parent of a little girl, or were once a little girl yourself, you know that inside there is a princess waiting for her day to shine. Throw her a birthday party complete with all the royal touches.

First and foremost, the birthday girl should choose her closest royal pals to invite to her big day. (Moms and Dads should get some say in this as sometimes little girls are unaware of the royal budget.) Let the guests know that this will be a theme party so that they can dress in their royal attire should they want to. Ask for the guests to RSVP in order to have an accurate count.

Next, plan and prepare refreshments, games, party favors and decorations. This type of birthday party provides an almost unlimited number of options. Choose the birthday girls favorite Disney princess or use multiple characters in your theme. Lots of themed items can be purchased locally or online at sites such as Birthday in a Box. Keep refreshments and games simple and age appropriate. Cake and ice cream are staples of any birthday party and can be purchased or homemade. Depending on the budget, an elaborate cake can be ordered or cupcakes can be made and simply decorated with pink frosting and edible glitter. Consider musical games and games with dancing as girls generally enjoy those things. Send each guest home with a treat bag filled with royal treats candy, toys, stickers or other small age appropriate items.

Finally, when the big day arrives, the birthday girl should don a beautiful dress and sparkling tiara, and greet her party guests. Let the festivities begin!

Once the party is over, have your child write notes to her guests thanking them for coming and for any gifts they brought. Include a photo of the party guest with the birthday girl in the note if possible. It will be a great keepsake for her.

Every girl dreams of being a princess even if it is only for a day!
